WOODLAND GIRLS 4TH, BOYS 5TH IN ROME TRACK MEET

The Woodland girls track and field team placed fourth and the school’s boys finished fifth in a Friday night tuneup for the upcoming Region 7-AAAAA meet at Rome’s Barron Stadium.

Competing in the stadium that will host the region championships this coming week, the Wildcats finished near the middle of the pack on both the girls (nine overall teams) and boys side (10 teams).

Woodland produced a pair of individual girls champions, and the Wildcats added five total runner-up finishes.

Rylee Evans won the 3200-meter run by roughly 45 seconds, finishing in 12 minutes, 3.93 seconds. Grace Webb took the high jump crown with a leap of 5 feet, while Sydney Molinaro placed second in the event, clearing 4 feet, 6 inches.

Morgan Cooper wound up second in the discus, hurling 81 feet, 2 inches; Patrick Bollwerk picked up a silver medal in the 3200, completing the race in 10 minutes, 45.50 seconds; and Nick Bailey finished runner-up in the shot put at 43 feet, 4 inches.

Pierre Brunet came in second in the 2000-meter steeplechase in 8 minutes, 3.81 seconds — ahead of teammate Kaleb Chance (8:28.54) in third. Other bronze showings included Erica Boatner (13:58.93) in the 3200 and Makenzie Stephenson (9:17.19) in the steeplechase.

Sania Walker placed fourth in the triple jump with a long of 29 feet, 5 inches to round out the girls top-10 finishes. Along with Bollwerk, two other Woodland runners placed inside the top 10 in the 3200, as Kobe Cochran (11:06.75) was fourth and McKinley Chappell (11:44.01) was 10th. Aaron Carlson led three Wildcats in the boys discus, finishing fifth with a toss of 108 feet, 7 inches.

Cass’ Ian Herman also competed in the meet, finishing fourth in the discus with a throw of 114 feet, 7.5 inches.
